Portable barcode scanners exist. Is that what you mean? You scan the barcode on a book, and, if you have a program like Collectorz.com Book Collector, it will integrate with it (though check with the software you buy, first) and will automatically pull up all the book's information from the internet.

Greetings Cheryl!
First, thanks for the firm validation. I just discovered the program while searching online for something else (you know how that is). I am writing to ask if you are familiar with a portable scanning device for looking up prices of used and rare books. Does such a gadget exist? Thanks for your help.
