Children’s and Teen Authors’ Name Pronounciation

TeachingBooks.net has a wonderful children’s and teen Author Pronunciation Guide, where you can click on an author’s name and hear them pronounce their name themselves, along with a short little dialog about their name. If you’re ever discussing children’s authors, or you’re going to meet a children’s author whose name you don’t know how to pronounce, head on over to this guide!

There are a lot of wonderful authors here, and a lot of my personal favorites whose books I love but whose name I wasn’t quite sure how to pronounce, including Lara M. Zeises (Bringing up the Bones), Vivian Vande Velde (Heir Apparent), Lisa Papademetriou (M or F?), Kenneth Oppel (Airborn), Elizabeth Withrop (The Castle in the Attic), and many, many more.

I was also happy to see that there are both US and Canadian children’s authors here, and recent authors as well as more established authors. Children’s authors and illustrators who want to record their pronunciation can click the contact link on that page. Since many librarians, teachers, and readers will access the page, it’s a great idea!

Thank you to Tasha Saecker of KidsLit blog for this wonderful resource.

How cool is that! I could use that for adult authors. :) I didn’t realize I was mispronouncing one of my favorite author’s names until I saw her on a TV show. By then I was so used to mispronouncing it, I had to work at getting it right.
