Roald Dahl is loved by young adults in the UK
I’ve loved Roald Dahl’s work ever since I was a child and read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I identified with Charlie so much–AND I wanted to experience his magical adventures, taste all the wonderful sweets. Next, of course, came Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
So I was also delighted to see the Guardian article, pointed out by Tasha Saecker at Kids Lit, that Roald Dahl “is the most popular children’s author among young adults,” according to one survey. Of course, the Guardian is a UK paper, so most likely the survey covered mostly UK children (which is why, perhaps, that most of the authors on the list are UK based).
There’s also a Roald Dahl day–the 13th of September.

Jen, I love your choices. We love so many of the same books!! Down a Dark Hall is one of my top favorite books!! I even worked a mention of it into my current manuscript.
And I love Madeline L’Engle’s books, and Anne of Green Gables, and The Railway Children–that is another favorite, and Pippi Longstocking!!! Hey, did you ever read The Littles? I read them as a kid, first, before the Borrowers, and they became instant favorites of mine.
And how about the Secret Garden? Or The Toothpaste Genie? Or… (laughing) I should stop. But this is fun! And now I have to check out the Maida books; I don’t know them.
