a great compilation of dial-a-story phone numbers

Want to listen to a picture book read aloud for free? A *real* picture book, not someone’s made-up story, or a fairy tale or a fable, but a published, often well-written picture book? Or do you know a child who would love being read to? Just go to the Dial-a-Story site. It lists tons of picture books that are read aloud at various libraries throughout the US, that you can phone and listen to. It shows the book covers, and also lists the title of the book, the phone number with the area code to call, and the location of the library. While the picture books listed on the site are not the ones that are currently playing it does give you an idea of the kinds of books you might hear. And this is still a fantastic list of many libraries all at once.

It helps if you have a great long-distance plan OR if you have internet phone like Skype (which would make the calls free). If you do, this is a fantastic service.
