3 children’s/teen comics being made into TV movies

I think comics can be a great and fun way to get kids reading. And you longtime readers will know that I think TV shows and movies based on books (and comics) can help give attention to those books (and comics) and gain new readers. So I’m excited that Cartoon Network has bought the rights to develop TV movies based on three comic book titles, including one that I love–Firebreather. (Firebreather is much cuter than the cover image I included.)

Cartoon Network will develop Firebreather (by Phil Hester, illustrated by Andy Khun) and Mice Templar (by Bryan J. L. Glass, illustrated by Michael Avon) (both published by Image Comics) as CG animated TV movies, and The Vanishers (by Chuck Dixon, illustrated by Andrew Klacik) (IDW Publishing) as a live-action TV movie.

Amazon’s summary of Firebreather (much better than what I could have written) is:

Divorce is tough for any teenager, but when your mother is a typical suburban soccer mom and your dad is a 300-foot-tall, city-trampling, battleship-devouring monster, things get even tougher. This is Duncan Rosenblatt’s reality. His mom wants him to get into a good college, his dad wants him to go into the family business: namely, conquering the earth and ascending to his rightful place as king of all monsters.

Sounds neat, huh? It is!

Cynopsis Kids also had these summaries for the two other comic books:

Mice Templar is … about a young mouse named Karic who becomes a warrior, rescues his village and reunites the order of the Mice Templar.

…The Vanishers is an action story about fifth graders Andy and Arvis and their travels through time.

I’ve never read the other two comics, but since they’re also getting made into TV movies, my interest is piqued; I’m going to go check them out.

Thanks to Cynopsis Kids for this heads up.
