There’s been a bunch of birthday bloggiversaries lately in the kidlitosphere, which prompted me to look through my blog and find my first post–I’m a read-a-holic and proud of it–exactly a year ago today. My first post still holds true–I love books, they give me so much, and I love writing them. I’m happy they’re such a big part of my life.
So today is my bloggiversary. It’s felt longer than a year; blogging’s become natural to me, as has reading wonderful blogs on a regular basis. I hope you enjoy my blog, and will continue to. Thanks for being a part of this.
So…my favorite thing to read right now is fantasy, magic–picture books, middle-grade books, and YA. But I love any book that touches me, any book that’s well written. Got any yummy recommendations for me?

Happy Bloggiversary! If you have not read Esme Raji Codell’s The Diary of Fairy Godmother, get it to read and better yet, listen to the audio version. I loved it.
August 9th, 2008 at 7:42 am
Thanks, Jone. I love the title! And I haven’t read it; now I want to check it out.
August 9th, 2008 at 7:42 am
Happy bloggiversary! I loved Starcross by Philip Reeve. It was a *wonderful* fantasy. Of realistic YA fiction, I was recently wowed with Shooting the Moon.
August 9th, 2008 at 7:45 am
Thanks, Becky. I love good fantasy, so that’s another book to add to my list. And I love realistic fiction that’s good, so it helps to hear Shooting the Moon wowed you. I’ll check it out, too!

Oh, I’m all about magic!
I’ll go ahead andsay (as I always do) my very favorite book of all time, “The 13 Clocks” by James Thurber. If you haven’t read it, READ IT TODAY! It is the best book evah!
Happy bloggiversary. Yay!!!!!!!!
August 9th, 2008 at 8:02 am
Thanks, Laurel! I haven’t read The 13 Clocks, but from your enthusiasm, I can tell I’ll have to pick it up!

Happy Birthday! It’s been great visiting you this past year.
Have you ever read Mary Stewart’s books for kids? One of my favorites is Ludo and the Star Horse– here is my review http://charlotteslibrary.blogspot.com/2007/07/ludo-and-star-horse-by-mary-stewart.html
August 9th, 2008 at 8:54 am
Thanks, Charlotte.
I have read some of Mary Stewart’s books, but years ago. I never read Ludo and the Star Horse–now I’ve got it on my to-read list. Thanks for the suggestion.

Happy happy! I just finished and LOVED “The Pull of the Ocean”, by Jean-Claude Mourlevat. While not magic per se, it is definately magical!
August 9th, 2008 at 9:52 am
I like any book that pulls me into the story, so I’ll look for The Pull of the Ocean. Thanks, Stacy.

Hi Cheryl,
Happy blogaversary! I’ve just started my own, but haven’t really told anyone about it yet. I’ve been building it and I think I’m ready to tell friends and colleagues. I never really thought about taking note of when that date actually is, but I will now.
My favourite fantasy book, which I recommend to all my fantasy readers is The Ruins of Gorlan, by Flanaghan. It is book one of the Rangers Apprentice series, and I can’t recommend it highly enough. It isn’t a new book, so you might have read it, and if so, I’m sure you love it, but that’s the title I’d like to “gift” you for your blog birthday.
August 9th, 2008 at 10:25 am
Oh, I love Esme Raji Codell and James Thurber’s books and thoroughly second the recommendation. I just bought and read Shannon Hale’s new book, Rapunzel’s Revenge, which is a graphic novel. Great fun, as are all of her books. Another recommendation is Sherwood Smith. Go read Crown Duel and the new prequel, A Stranger to Command. Wishing you a great blogaversary!
August 9th, 2008 at 10:31 am
Janice, welcome to the kidlitosphere. I’m glad you’re dipping in your toes. I’ll check out The Ruins of Gorlan; I love good books, whether they’re new or old.
Jenny, I love Sherwood Smith and Shannon Hale, too! I haven’t read Rapunzel’s Revenge, yet, but now I’ve got it on my to-read list.

¡Felicidades! This is one of the blogs I look forward to checking every day, Cheryl. You’ve done a great job with it.
August 9th, 2008 at 12:20 pm
Oh, thank you, Sarah–that’s the best bloggiversary gift yet! That made me feel so good.
August 9th, 2008 at 3:03 pm
Congratulations on your blogversary!
If you haven’t read Suzanne Collins’ Gregor series, I’d try that one. She has a new series coming out in October too!
August 9th, 2008 at 3:46 pm
Thanks, Tasha. I haven’t read the series. I think I read so much, but there are still so many books I haven’t read! I’m glad to hear more good ones.

Happy Bloggiversary! Since you’re an avid reader, you’ve probably read anything I might suggest. We love Iain Colfer in my house, and Bruce Hale, and for the older set, a few books I’ve devoured and loved recently have been Melissa Marr’s Wicked Lovely and Ink Exchange and Libba Bray’s Emma Doyle trilogy. Oh! And Melissa Walker’s third Violet book just came out – and Jenny Davidson’s new The Explosionist.
Cheers!
Linda

Thanks, Linda. I love hearing about books people gobble up, ones that they love. I’ve read some by the authors you mentioned, but not all, so now I’ve got more on my to-read list, which is lovely.

Happy bloggiversary! If you haven’t read Kaimira: Sky Village by Monk Ashland you should. It’s really good and he is working on aseries of six plus games and web stuff.
August 9th, 2008 at 6:31 pm
What a great celebration and gorgeous cake for a bloggiversary of a literary blog that makes a real difference! I’ll enjoy perusing the recommendations of the other “visitors to the party” that have stopped by!
August 9th, 2008 at 7:27 pm
Woo-hoo!!! Happy Bloggiversary to youuuuuu!!!
Book recs? Well… Have you read the Arthur trilogy by Kevin Crossley-Holland? They’re historical with a bit of fantasy, with elements of the Arthurian legends. Good stuff. The Nature of Jade by Deb Caletti and Jump the Cracks by Stacy DeKeyser were a couple of realistic YAs that I read recently and liked.
August 10th, 2008 at 2:47 am
I’ve just finished reading the first book in the Bartimaeus triology by Jonathan Stroud and it’s one of the best books I’ve ever read in my life. I totally recommend it!!!!!!!!
August 10th, 2008 at 4:48 am
More great recommendations to wake up to! And people coming by to celebrate–thank you, everyone; I really appreciate it. That made this fun!
Cloudscome, thanks for letting me know how much you liked Sky Village. I’ve got it on my table. I really enjoyed some chapters, and some chapters didn’t work for me, so I put it down, but now I’ll try it again.
Julie, I love that cake, too. Thank you for your kind words; that meant a lot to me.
Eisha, the Arthur trilogy sounds interesting. I’ve written down all the titles you mentioned; they’re on my to-read list now.
Amanda, thanks for the recommendation. I have Stroud’s book, too; I’ll have to give it another look.
This is such fun; it feels like a real celebration. Thank you, everyone; you’re wonderful.

Happy Bloggiversary, Cheryl! And since you asked for book tips, and you already have some on teen pregnancy, you might want to try Angel’s Choice.
August 10th, 2008 at 5:33 pm
Congratulations on your bloggiversary, Cheryl! I recommend The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart (children’s fantasy novel), which I reviewed on my blog, and the adult novel The Whistling Season by Ivan Doig (a great story that I could not put down until the end). Happy reading!
August 10th, 2008 at 5:54 pm
Lauren and Kim, thank you for the book suggestions and the good wishes! I’m happy to have more books to look into.
August 16th, 2008 at 6:50 pm
Cheryl! I am very, very slow in getting to this, because I’ve been so busy with work and such, but I’ve had on my mental to-do list to come over here and wish you a happy blogiversary since I first read about it. So happy blogiversary, and I’m so glad you’re a part of the kidlitosphere and that I know you! WAHOO!!
Book recs? I’m about to start Franny Billingsley’s The Folk Keeper, which I’ve always wanted to read and is supposed to be great. I’ll let you know how it goes!
August 17th, 2008 at 4:59 am
Thanks, Jules; I’m delighted you came by and left a note. And thank you for the lovely things you said. I’m so glad that you’re part of the kidlitosphere and that I know you, too.
I’ll be glad to know if you like The Folk Keeper.

Happy bloggiversary! I just had my two year bloggiversary this past April.
For book recommendations: My absolute favorite book is The Haunting of Cassie Palmer by Vivian Alcock. It’s a mid-grade ghost story and is just terrific. I adore the ghost in it. It’s an older book, though (published early eighties) so it might be difficult to find.
Have you read The Dark is Rising sequence by Susan Cooper? Those books are great. The Boggart and its sequel, The Boggart and the Monster, also by Cooper, are excellent, too.
August 19th, 2008 at 8:01 am
Thank you, Heather, for your good wishes and suggestions. And happy bloggiversary to you, too!
I’ve read some of Vivian Alcock, but not that book, so I’ll try to find it. Thank you. I can’t remember if I loved The Dark Is Rising or not; I’ll have to go read it again.

I do not think that every single student all over the world has got a passion of analytical essay composing! Nevertheless, persons that don’t have writing skills should utilize an assistance of great custom writing service and be satisfied with a success.
