Two more children’s books made into movies

Phyllis Reynolds Naylor’s Alice books have been made into a movie–Alice Upside Down–that will go directly to DVD on July 29, 2008. Alice Upside Down stars Alyson Stoner (Camp Rock, Cheaper By The Dozen), Lucas Grabeel (High School Musical, HSM 2), Luke Perry, and Penny Marshall, among others. The movie is about 11-year-old Alice McKinley who moves to a new town with her dad and teenaged brother.

Kate DiCamillo’s Newbery award-winning book, The Tale of Despereaux is being made into an animated movie–The Tale of Despereaux (by Universal). The movie is directed by Sam Fell and Rob Stevenhagen. DiCamillo helped write the screenplay. The movie will debut in theaters December 19, 2008. A video game based on the book and movie will be released the same day.
