Elizabeth, I love Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day! I can see the connection; it’s a good one.

I don't think this book explores the negative, though. I think it helps kids to better cope with emotion and boundary setting.

A Day With My Dad at the Beach sounds lovely. And how warming that it inspired your husband to connect with your daughter.

For some reason, this kind of reminds me of a younger version of "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day," but for younger kids. How good it is for them to know that the "no's" annoy lots of kids, not just them!

There are so many wonderful picture books for kids out there, and I just wanted to recommend one we recently got,
A Day With My Dad at the Beach. The Leo book explores the negative and this one highlights the positive emotions and love between a dad and daughter. This book has really inspired my husband to make a real effort to connect with our daughter. He finds it hard to figure out what's fun to do and now he just knows he simply needs to spend time with her doing whatever. (Though the beach theme of this book got him to take her to the lake by our house last weekend!)
