Gift for a true book lover – book of photos of people reading
On Reading features 68 photos that photographer André Kertész took of people reading–reading alone or in a crowd, at home or on the street. The photos were taken between 1920 and 1970 in Hungary, France and America.
This seems like the perfect book for a true book lover–a kind of celebration and validation of readers. I know I want a copy.
Does it appeal to you?
Thanks to Condalmo for pointing out the book.

I like the concept.
It might make me feel guilty though for all the books I am still meaning to read.

Ms S , I feel that way about books I have to read for review. BUT how about instead…seeing pleasure in all the books we’ve read and loved? That’s what the photos make me think of.
I don’t think we should feel guilty about what we haven’t read yet, or pressure ourselves to. Though that is so much easier to say than to do. And why?

I like the perspective you offer much better than my guilt-laden one. Reading truly is a pleasure and has always been so.

Oh, good, Ms S.; I’m so glad! I didn’t want to step on your toes.
It’s lovely to hear that reading is a pleasure for you. So then, if you can, throw that guilt away–because it doesn’t belong.

I love pictures of people reading. It always feels a little like peeking at the world that they’re sunk into, while at the same time knowing that they’re completely private in there. It makes me want to go read.
