Jonas Brothers to star in Walter the Farting Dog movie

The picture book series Walter the Farting Dog by William Kotzwinkle and Glenn Murray will be made into a move, with filming starting in the spring of 2009. The Jonas Brothers have signed on with Fox, and will feature Nick, Joe, Kevin, and their little brother Frankie. The book has been wildly popular with young boys, so it seems like the film will reach them, too.

As I often do with picture books being made into movies, I wonder how they will translate to the screen, and if a lot of stuff will be added that doesn’t have the feel of the books. I think of Horton, especially–it grew so far away from the book it was hard to recognize. But sometimes it works out. What’s your take?

Thanks to Cynopsis Kids for the info.

Honestly, I’m not a “Joe Bro” fan, but hey, they’re popular, so I think the movie will be a success because SO many kids think they rock. And, I do think it’s good that the famous three can do something with their younger brother. That’s good, too.

I don’t know the Jonas brothers, but it sounds like their popularity will help, as you said.

Cheryl, you ask a good question. As the illustrator of the WFD series, and having spent approximately six years creating art for the books I don’t see how a live action film with a pop group could even remotely resemble the WFD style. I’m worried about it becoming a cutesy Disneyesque flick. I would have preferred them to do an animated movie but the authors(there are three of them) wanted live action.
