30 Poets, 30 Days – New Children’s Poetry
Like children’s poetry? Want to introduce a child or adult to some fun poetry? Check out 30 Poets, 30 Days at GottaBook next month.
Every day in April, to celebrate National Poetry Month, Greg will post a previously unpublished poem by a different poet. The event will start off on Tuesday, April 1, with former Children’s Poet Laureate Jack Prelutsky’s new “A Little Poem For Poetry Month.”

Personally, I consider children’s poetry quite childish, Lewis Carroll’s celebrated reference to “my beamish boy” notwithstanding.

Percy–children’s poetry IS written for children. I think there’s some fantastic children’s poetry out there–full of playfulness and silliness and fun. Some with depth, too.

Thanks for the link, Cheryl. And while I think Percy’s comment is a tad tongue in cheek (though there certainly is some bad poetry for kids just as there’s bad poetry for adults), one reason I launched this project was an attempt to show the incredible breadth of work being done for kids. I’d also note that many of the poets on the list publish poetry for adults, as well, and in this go-round I didn’t delve into the amazing work being written for teens in novels in verse (though a few of the poets on the list have done those).
Anyway, Percy is probably not the target audience, though I’m pretty sure that anyone who likes poetry and samples all 30 poems will find something to like.

I love children’s poetry. We released our first children’s book on April 1st and it is written in rhythm and rhyme. I invite you to read The Angry Thunderstorm and provide a review on you blog. Please let me know if I can send you a copy.
