Had a fantastic time at ALA in DC!
I had such a fantastic time at ALA! So much good happened around Scars! I *loved* hearing from a number of librarians that they can’t keep Scars in the library–that so many kids want it, that it’s gone viral. Incredible! (beaming) And many people thanked me for writing the book. How lovely to hear! I also met a few parents whose children have used self-harm to cope, and teachers or librarians whose students had, and they were all moved by or very interested in Scars. I’m glad it reached them!
A lot of librarians took Scars to share–it makes me SO glad that Scars will reach teens who need it. And will introduce other people to info and understanding about self-harm and sexual abuse–and hopefully come away with more compassion. So many wonderful people came up to me to get a copy of Scars at the ALA booth, or to say hi. It felt good!
And I was so surprised that a bunch of people recognized me who I’d never met, including in my hotel and on the subway. I met some fantastic Twitter peeps, too. And a number of writers I really love and respect came to my booth, or I went out to dinner with them the next night. Wow! it was a …fantastic experience! Thank you, all! I loved meeting you all.
I was also delighted to see that Scars was featured on the WestSide booth banner–wow! Absolutely incredible!
I’ll post some pics when I get them. (I forgot my camera in my suitcase, but a few people are going to email me pics.)
