I know I’m doing something good when I start getting trolls.

I know I’m doing something good when I start getting trolls. A troll posted a rainbow flag beneath a crossed-out sign on my You Don’t Deserve To Be Hurt video on Instagram.
I blocked them (which deleted their comment). It was funny because I didn’t mention #LGBTQ content in that video – although I AM always out/proud

I find it interesting that he left a homophobic comment on that video – reminding survivors and everyone that they don’t deserve to be hurt by anyone. Unless he chose randomly, that means he found something in my message threatening. Avoiding abuse & self-abuse IS political.

Because abuse keeps those with power in power, and keeps those that are oppressed oppressed. Finding ways to escape abuse, including self-abuse that we’ve been taught, is not just healing, it is revolutionary and political.

Keep taking good care of yourself!

I appreciate this curated list

I appreciate this curated list author @gdcribbs created of YA books that deal with sexual abuse, sexual assault, trafficking, and more. It’s so important to have these books and these discussions, to #BelieveSurvivors and hear them, to help each other heal. And I am so glad to have my books included in this powerful list. #MeToo

I saw this awesome bumper sticker on a truck

I saw this awesome bumper sticker on a truck in a parking lot today. It made me feel lighter, better, to randomly see a positive message out there.

I think it’s true, and we need to keep fighting for rights and equality for all oppressed groups, including #LGBTQIA, PoC, disabilities of all kinds; an end to violence and rape, sexual assault and child abuse and torture – prevention, and full belief, support, and help for survivors when it does happen; better gun laws; and just…a kinder, more compassionate, living world, even when other people oppose us. Especially when they do. (Though it’s also important to practice self-care.) #BelieveSurvivors #MeToo #rapeculture

I write because I had no voice growing up.

I write because I had no voice growing up. I write because I didn’t see myself reflected – lesbian, feminist, rape & torture survivor – yet books helped save me. I write to help others know they are not alone & it can get better. I write to have a voice.#WhyIWrite #BelieveSurvivors

My #BelieveSurvivors poem. Keep fighting.

You think you silenced me
You think you broke my hope
But I am just girding myself up for the long fight.
I won’t give up; I can’t.
It is my life – and that of others on the line.
So I will rest recharge
heal connect get inspired
and then I will fight.

I LOVE this powerful #BelieveSurvivors #bookart post by @yawednesdays

I LOVE this powerful #BelieveSurvivors #bookart post by @yawednesdays that I found via @jessicaspotswood. Speaking truth is powerful, and books help create positive change with those truths even more. They can increase empathy and compassion, help us know we are not alone. And they can also help us escape our own pain.

“When a woman risks
her place, her very life to speak
a truth the world despises?
Believe her. Always.” — @jmcwrites Blood, Water, Paint

This week has been a difficult mental health week for me. Victims have been put on trial while the accused have been self-righteous and arrogant, insulated by their privilege. I have sought the comfort of the written word and every single book in this shot has spoken to me in a different way. I hope these recs will help someone else find their voice.

This has been a very abstract attempt at #StackingUpSaturday, but we all know I have trouble playing by the rules.
someone else find their voice.

As a fellow survivor, I believe, hear, and stand with Dr. Christine Blasey Ford.

As a fellow survivor, I believe, hear, and stand with Dr. Christine Blasey Ford. I applaud her courage and strength in speaking out in a society that consistently blames, does not believe, and fails to support survivors and women. In a society that values men and their power over the lives, safety, and mental health of women and other survivors.

All of the attacks on Dr. Christine Blasey Ford are yet another example of our #rapeculture where men, and even some women, believe that it is okay to verbally attack, threaten, and attempt to discredit a brave woman speaking her truth. This lack of compassion, empathy, and humanity needs to stop. #BelieveSurvivors

Via @huffpostwomen – “I am here today not because I want to be. I am terrified. I am here because I believe it is my civic duty to tell you what happened to me while Brett Kavanaugh and I were in high school.” ◾️ Christine Blasey Ford gives her testimony regarding her allegation that the Supreme Court nominee sexually assaulted her when they were in high school. Like Anita Hill before her, Blasey chose to wear a blue suit to the hearing today. (📷: Getty)

It takes a lot of courage and strength to speak out about rape, sexual harassment, or incest in a society that does not often believe survivors and usually blames us. Please believe survivors when we speak out.
