When I really love a book
When I really love a book and it is a hard copy I put a sticky note next to passages that move me, speak to me, or I love how they’re written. It’s reading mostly as a reader and some as a writer. It helps me notice it more. If it’s a great book, the pages end up looking like multi-colored hair like my copy of CROWN OF FEATHERS by Nicki Pau Preto. (grinning) Can you tell I loved it?
Sometimes I’ll remove the sticky notes later, and sometimes I leave them and see if the same passages resonate next time around.
I guess this is a readerly and writerly quirk of mine. Anyone else do this?
Side note: if you want to be a writer you need to read!

I’m reading CROWN OF FEATHERS by Nicki Pau Preto which I am still LOVING so much, with my little Petal who is such a snugglebug. Strong, smart girl characters, magic and animal telepathy, a queer romance, cultural diversity – and beautifully, engangingly written.
Peta has pancreatitis again – it seems to becoming chronic – so any positive energy for her is welcomed. (She is on a low protein, low fat diet, and digestive enzymes, a fermented probiotic, and two new supplements I just found for her, and NHV Mellit and Turmeric.) #crownoffeathers #nickipaupreto #bookrecommendations #bookrecs #bookstagram

I am super excited for the Feb Uppercase box
I am super excited for the Feb Uppercase box that I got from generous reader and friend Lynn Postlewait. I just started CROWN OF FEATHERS by Nicki Pau Preto and already I’m loving it; just the first few pages tell me that it is beautifully written. And I am extra excited about it because it has a queer romance and racial diversity!
I love YA fantasy, especially with strong girls, and strong queer girls? Even more! Kudos to Uppercase for picking such a great book.
I also loved the quote magnet for CROWN OF FEATHERS, the positive-message postcard by Victor Hugo, and the Raised by Books pencil case from Out of Print. This is my favorite box yet! Everything here is absolutely perfect for me, like it was hand-picked! (beaming)
