I just stumbled on something cool–Seenreading.com!
Seenreading is a blog by Julie Wilson, who works in publishing and lives in Toronto. She notes down what books people are reading when she sees them–even the page number!–where they were and what they look like, and posts about it on her blog. She also writes a fictional piece about the person she saw reading, and posts a podcast. You get a taste for what some people are reading.
I love the idea! Reading sightings! Book sightings. As she said, many people are buying and reading books.
She says on her blog:
“What is Seen Reading?
I see you reading.
I remember what page you’re on in the book.
I head to the bookstore, and make a note of the text.
I let my imagination rip.
Readers become celebrities.
People get giddy and buy more books.”
I like this–a celebration of books and readers!
The one thing I’d find uncomfortable is if I was one of the readers she spotted, and she leaned over to find out what page I’m on. 🙂 But maybe she knows how to do it so unobtrusively it wouldn’t bother me. She did a great job in the video below.
What do you think? Does it interest you? Do you like knowing what people were spotted reading? (I do.)
