Writing is a form of therapy.

I love this quote. I think writing IS a form of therapy–or it can be. For me, when I write fiction and I give my characters happy endings, or justice where I never had any, where the abusers go to jail or where the teen gets safe, that is me rewriting my history, and it’s a kind of therapy (as is being heard). And then, of course, reaching readers who need my books is incredibly valuable and healing.

Journal writing, too, and free writing, can all be forms of therapy. So I loved finding this quote. I don’t believe in madness, but I do think that a lot of us struggle with depression, despair, hopelessness–and writing CAN help. Of course, we also need human interaction, and we may need to share our writing, to be heard…but writing in and of itself can be a great help.

Have you ever used writing for therapy? Do you find it therapeutic?

Hello. I saw this quote and picture somewhere on the internet. It led me here and also to your facebook page. I will have to check out your books as I would also have liked to found books such as these when I was younger. I have just recently started to write in a journal. I hope that it helps me as much as some say it will. I have also just started a fb page for the first time. I am going to use it as an outlet for writing therapy. Anyhow I would like to share this graphic with the quote on my new page if that is alright with you. Maybe even something from your fb page if possible. I would like to get the word out on your books. I think they could be very helpful to people with these same issues or they may know someone in need. Please when you have the time let me know if it is ok. Thanks and Be well~*

  2. Hi Windy (smiling at you), I’m glad you found this quote and picture on the net, and then found your way to my blog; thanks for letting me know. Feel free to use it on your FB page; just please link back to here. I think diary writing can be a great help–very therapeutic. I hope you find it helps you. And thank you so much; I’d love any help to get the word out about my books.
    Take good care,
    Cheryl
